Dear Eve thinking of you and your family today. To many words to describe the man Paul was. Thank you Paul for having a big heart. I worked for you many years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Aaron Evan and Melissa several times when they came to visit the office. They were so small and from the photo above they have grown and look strong and beautiful. I wish I could have met all the children back then.
I just want to say thinking of you and Paul you were exceptional. My prayers are with your family always.

I worked with Paul…he was my employer 13 years ago….when i read this just today i cannot believe it because I just mentioned Paul’s name just yesterday to my husband. Paul taught me alot and treated us all well. When I had my son 12 years ago Paul visited me at home and brought me a “Silver Spoon” for Noah my son and said all children need to grow up with a “Silver Spoon”. It was a pleasure and honor to work for Paul and also for Eve. God Bless your family and I am sorry for your loss.

A colleague in Heritage values, I had the pleasure of briefly working with Paul in my capacity as a Director of the Frontenac Heritage Foundation. Kingston’s Outer Station was the cause at hand, given it’s significance as a former capital of Canada and that every Prime Minister from MacDonald to Trudeau arrived at it’s door. Sadly, it is a ruin now; but with the inspiration of Paul and his vision for Summerhill in mind, we will carry on the fight. May he rest in peace.

Losing a father is heart breaking. I was at Montcrest with Evan when I lost mine and a year later at high school with Brodie. I’m so sorry for your loss. Andrew.
I would talk to Paul at school functions as we watched our boys taking part in various events. A kind and gracious man. I understand your loss. Barbara

We had the great pleasure of working with Paul and the Woodcliffe team last year on the restoration of the buildings at 107-109 King Street East. Paul quickly became a hero to our team due to his passion for preserving Toronto’s history, and our company’s like-minded approach to design and reclaiming the past. Paul was a committed and passionate individual with vision and substance. He always knew the art of the deal and expressed his commitment to his beliefs. I will always remember our chats to try to save the Downsview Hangars and we came very close thanks to his commitment. I remember him joining me for a full day of negotiations in Florida to save those hangars. It was my first vacation in 7 years but I received the distinct impression that vacation was completely foreign to Paul. He loved to fly and he soared very high with a great legacy in real estate and his devotion to his family. May God bring comfort to all those that remain with smiles of hope that Paul brought to all of us.

I met Paul, years ago, through my sister and her then husband. I remember him fondly at birthdays and skating parties for his sense of humour and how he would rib me for the amount of food I could consume in one sitting. He was always and unfailingly gracious in his inquiries into my life, for which I was grateful. A friend of mine was here with me when I received news that he had died. Amazingly enough, this friend was at City Hall when the news came. She told me that they held two minutes of silence in memory of his passing. Clearly Paul’s work, not just as an architect but as an urban planner, touched many lives, from all socioeconomic backgrounds. What a life he had! I am deeply saddened for his family, for the loss of his presence, and guidance. I hope that knowing how many people’s lives he touched brings some solace to you.

Upon hearing of the loss of Paul, I immediately realized that the city had lost a great man and that I had lost an ally and a friend. I have worked with Paul for the past few years. Through my interaction with him I came to see how he was able to make every person who came into his life feel like a friend. His positive nature, his strong handshake and his welcoming smile made working with him a true joy. He was able to bring the best out of me as an architect and for that I am truly grateful. Paul was also a great friend to the city and to the built environment. His vision and tenacity resulted in public spaces that are cherished by people in this city. The best way to memorialize Paul would be to continue building with the same vision and spirit that he did. We will need to set our standards much higher, demand excellence in every aspect of our work and give back to the public realm. I would like to express my sincere condolences to Paul’s family. He will be missed.

I had the honour of meeting Paul, his lovely wife Eve and the many wonderful people who work in the Toronto Woodcliffe office when my husband came on board with Woodcliffe at The Chambers, in Ottawa. I was so impressed by the warmth and generosity afforded us by Paul & his Woodcliffe team on our visit to Toronto. It takes a great leader to build a company whose employees share in his passion for excellence and strive to bring this to their work. He has left his indelible mark on the many heritage buildings he has so lovingly brought to new life. My deepest condolences to Eve, their 6 beautiful children and the team at Woodcliffe.

“I first met Paul when he chaired Greenwood’s building committee in 2004. Paul’s knowledge of building and design and his ability to communicate this understanding in laymen’s terms was impressive. As a long-time board member, he pushed our management team to think broadly about how the school could best prepare students for the 21st century. He was effusive in his praise of what Greenwood had done for his son Evan, who graduated in 2007, and always willing to help out with the school’s ongoing evolution. My fondest memory of Paul comes from last spring when he and I negotiated the purchase of a neighbouring property. I was able to see first-hand his consummate people skills and his attention to detail. Greenwood will miss him.”

Although I didn’t know Paul well, I met him first about 35 years ago, as I was good friends with his brother Jeff, with whom I went to high school. I had the pleasure of being the recipient of the generosity that so many of the posters here are fondly recalling. It was at Jeff’s 50th birthday party, held at Paul and Eve’s lovely home. Paul made a point of asking me how I was doing, and gave me his complete, undivided attention while we chatted. I remember thinking to myself during our conversation that my achievements obviously paled in comparison to his, so why would he be interested in what I had to say? Clearly, I was wrong. It was the last of the 5 or 6 times in my life I had ever seen him, and I learned more in that 15 minutes about him than I ever had. What an affable and charming man. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, associates, and all those who were a part of his all-too-brief time on earth.

    Paul’s Plan

On Mar 7, 2011, Paul was offered a new redevelopment project by God. In order for Paul to understand the full scope of the project he came up with a plan to ensure that his family and friends would come together in one place.

God needed to redevelop Heaven into a modern place while maintaining it’s Heritage. He wanted someone ballsy and courageous for the task, so He offered the job to Paul.

Paul thought about it & decided that this is was the ultimate job he couldn’t resist, so he said to God, “I’m In!”.

Paul is in Heaven redesigning spaces for all of us. When he’s finished, Heaven will be the coolest place to live.

The work that we did at the Shops of Scrivener Square could never have happened without his leadership and guidance. Paul was also a great friend to the city and to the built environment. His vision and tenacity resulted in public spaces that are cherished by people in this city. His leadership in this area will truly be missed. For the design and development community, the best way to memorialize Paul would be to continue building with the same vision and spirit that he did. We will need to set our standards much higher, demand excellence in every aspect of our work and give back to the public realm. Together with my staff at AUDAXarchitecture, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Paul’s family and friends. After attending the memorial on Friday, and seeing the strength of his wife and children, and how much love surrounded him, it became clear to me how special Paul was. He will be missed.

It was 1983/1984 when a friend and I were looking for angel financing for our software company that I first met Paul who together with his then business partner agreed to fund our project. The company did not reach the success that Paul was destined to in later years, and while I lost touch with him 25 years ago, my memory of Paul has always been there. Even at that young age, he had accomplished a lot and he was well on his way to see his vision of King James Place come to life. I am sure that Paul touched many peoples lives over the years.

    My deepest sympathies.

  194. Canadian Air & Space Museum Avatar
    Canadian Air & Space Museum

Paul Oberman, Member of the Board

Paul Oberman was both friend and colleague. As chairman of the Canadian Air & Space Museum I worked with Paul on a number of ventures including the recent effort to preserve large World War II era hangars on the Downsview site. The exercise was a sometimes astonishing demonstration of creativity and drive combining to underpin a project that at first seemed impossible and, at the end assumed what should have been commercially inevitable status. Where many proclaimed simply “the hangars should be saved” and hoped others would
act, Paul Oberman instead recognized that a plan with commercial texture would lend stronger heart to the case to save the buildings and ensure a durable role for them within the community predicated on value delivered rather than taxpayer charity.

Paul followed this formula repeatedly with projects like the North Toronto Station. Like most of his projects, every day the site plays to the imagination of an entire community as they watch and enjoy the texture of a repurposed historic site as it plays a vibrant and active role in a major urban neighborhood. An entire neighborhood has grown cultured to the value of historic site restoration and redevelopment, ensuring increased sensitivity to the loss of other prospective
heritage projects. It starts with a building that leads to a neighborhood re‐energized about its heritage opportunities which ultimately yields a city with a practical, well‐grounded heritage culture as part of its basic DNA. Books about urban development are useful but some living buildings tell the same story in ways that compel all the senses and predispose an entire community to major change. The people that accomplish this deserve every recognition.

Paul’s efforts included aviation which has played a major, albeit unheralded role in Toronto’s historical development. He realized that the architectural treasures within the precincts of Downsview Park have major, unexplored potential to revitalize the lifeblood of an important segment of our urban landscape. The importance of recognizing architectural values in the context of productive, commercial employments is irrefutably the most durable foundation for securing the future of historic building conservation. Where buildings contribute they have life.
Paul knew that a stimulating community is its own best defense as it cements the economic and social bonds that preserve and restores an urban field. The very best practitioners of heritage conservation are developers like Paul who have the vision to recognize and work towards this end. They are the true community builders and it is their visions around the sites that they save which cements the community ground on which the buildings themselves must stand. Paul Oberman clearly earned a prominent if not preeminent place in these ranks. The enormity of
his loss for Downsview, the Air & Space Museum, the aviation community and Toronto at large, is incalculable. A wonderful friend is gone.

It comes to my mind very strongly that Dean Alfange’s “The Entrepreneur’s Credo” (http://goo.gl/b12cv) would be a fitting description of all that Paul stood for.

    My deepest condolences to Eve.

A century ago, Wallace Wattles talked about “progress is made by the man who more than fills his present place”; and Paul was one such man.

    You will be missed.

I’m not sure there’s a word big enough in our lexicon to describe Paul. Visionary, leader, innovator, full of life, vitality, adventure, passion for his work, loyalty to all those close to him and, above all, love and devotion to his family. The outpouring of grief, and gratitude to have known a man like Paul is no surprise. He was an inspiration, made all the more inspirational to me for the interest he took in me and my goals, and the investment he made in seeing me reach them.

I’ve worked with Paul and Eve in various capacities for many years. I have never ceased to be floored by their incredible generosity and warmth. They have gone above and beyond for me on countless occasions. There is no doubt in my mind that anything I’ve been able to accomplish in the last 9 years has been thanks to the extraordinary care and support they’ve shown me over and over again. I’m so grateful to have known Paul, and to have seen the love that he and Eve shared; a true partnership in every sense. That, too, is an inspiration.

I was so shocked to hear of this loss; the loss for Eve, Aaron, Melissa, Evan, Taylor, Brodie and Stratton is unimaginable. I’m so sorry for you all.

I was shaken on Tuesday night, so unsure of how to process this grief, as so many of us are. I turned on the radio and heard Stuart McLean reading an essay on Toronto. It couldn’t have been a more fitting tribute to Paul’s incredible work and vision for this City. Here is an abridged version:

“Toronto to me is a conversation. It is the conversation that the city asks that we participate in. More than asks, it demands that of us. Because it is through this great civic conversation that the City defines itself. No one escapes. Whether we’re open to it, or think we’re not, our lives are affected on every level by the proximity of others, and- I would put forward- are the richer for it. This may be an urban jungle, but the ecology here is more swamp than forest. Not because it’s full of swampy things, though it is that. But because it is rich and feted and varied, and because we are growing on the soil of the past. You have to look a little harder to see beauty here. We are far from the unmistakeable beauty of the mountains and the forests and the lakes. But if you catch the light just right, the beauty can be just as dazzling. This is my home. And, yes, living here can be heavy lifting, and maybe that’s the best thing about it. It asks much of me, but the thing is asks most of all, and over and over again, hour by hour, is this: for me to be a citizen. We are blessed to be here, and to have so much when so many have so little. To live by God’s grace and a wonderful country, and by great good luck, to be part of the conversation that is Toronto.” – Stuart McLean

On the number of occasions that I had the privilege of meeting with Paul, I knew him to be a man of heart and soul. We were grateful to benefit from his wisdom, compassion and generosity. He inspired and motivated me personally and the team at Distress Centres. His contributions have made a real difference.

Please accept our sincerest sympathies on his tragic and untimely death. Our thoughts are with you.

I have sat on the same board with Paul for about 4 short years. In the last four years we challenged The City of Toronto, Enbridge and many others with success. Paul taught us to think outside the box and always strive for over and above the expected.
Rosedale now speaks for itself. I was introduced to Eve by Paul to work on the marketing committee. Right away I know we had a firecracker and the same energy. How can such a couple exist? We have some big boots to follow in, you will be in our memories as we continue with the excellence of Rosedale.

Paul was our anchor and inspiration here at the Rosedale Main Street
    BIA.

He wanted to create a vibrant community here in Rosedale. With every project we took on he encouraged us to strive for excellence. He taught us not to accept the status quo.

There is going to be a huge gap here at the BIA. We were very lucky and

I first met Paul when he chaired Greenwood’s building committee in 2004. Paul’s knowledge of building and design and his ability to communicate this understanding in laymen’s terms was impressive. As a long-time board member, he pushed our management team to think broadly about how the school could best prepare students for the 21st century. He was effusive in his praise of what Greenwood had done for Evan, who graduated in 2007, and always willing to help out with the school’s ongoing evolution. My fondest memory of Paul comes from last spring when he and I negotiated the purchase of a neighbouring property. I was able to see first-hand his consummate people skills and his attention to detail. Greenwood will miss him.

I had the pleasure of working at Woodcliffe in 2010 for a brief but memorable period. I will always remember Paul coming into the office with a very friendly and cheerfull “Good Morning” to everyone. I saw how happy he was when Eve and him were together, and how his children were his pride and joy, along with his company.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Eve, Melissa, Evan and the rest of the family, friends and Woodcliffe.

My deepest condolences to Paul’s family, and especially to Evan who was a student of mine at Greenwood College in Toronto. Paul purchased a cottage in Temagami, Ontario that had previously belonged to my cousin, George Small of Baltimore. He had done, as would be expected, an outstanding job of rebuilding it and making it modern but without losing any of the building’s essential character and charm. Just a small part of his legacy to the preservation of our heritage.

I got to know Paul and Eve when working with Charles Macpherson in Toronto – what fun I had staying with them and working with them in their beautiful home. A home filled with joy and laughter and so many children! Paul was one of the most generous people I have met and when I say generous it was with his joy of sharing life and knowledge. My heart is with Eve and the family ……I am sorry that I canot be at the service but my thoughts will be there and Paul will always be with us all.

Paul was a real gentleman and always kind, friendly, polite, generous and approachable. Paul was a world traveller and brought back memories when he talked about his visit to the Island of Pemba( my birth palace) off the East Coast Tanzania.
Please convey my heartfelt condolences to Eve and the family.
My prayers are with you all.

I was devasted to hear the news of Paul’s death yesterday morning when I arrived at work. I am one of the owners of All the Best Fine Foods, one of the “Shops at Scrivner Square”, aka The Five Thieves. I have known Paul & Eve for over 15 years, and I have been on the receiving end of his “vision” for about 8 of those years as a tenant. He and I also sat together on the Board of Management of the Rosedale BIA for, I think, about 5 years. I can attest to Paul’s tenacious committment to heritage preservation, and his absolute disdain for the small-minded beauraucracy that regularly got in his way.

First, as merchants in the block directly south, we weathered and then basked in the beauty, of the spectacular restoration of the Summerhill Station, the LCBO.

Next, we started working on the restoration of our block, rebranded as the Shops at Scrivner Square. I believe it is entirely accurate to say that our block is worthy of international attention – it is magnificent and it would never have happened without Paul’s refusal to compromise, his relentless attention to perfect detail, and his belief in the socially intrinsic value of preserving our heritage properties. Paul & Eve live around the corner from the stores, and thus this was a very personal project for him. This was his ‘hood.

His leadership on the Board of the BIA cannot be replaced. He thought bigger than anyone I have ever met, never settling for the status quo or the impossible, ever. He pushed hard and accomplished things that most of us would have given up on.

For Paul’s family, I know this loss is excruciating and unimaginable. Our neighbourhood and the city of Toronto has lost a great visionary, a fighter for what is right.

I sat in Paul’s office dozens & dozens of times, and each time marvelled at the family photos that always surrounded him. His children were his pride and joy.

I send my sincerest and deepest condolences to Eve and the children, and also to all our friends and colleagues at Woodcliffe.

Riz and I were truly honoured to have had Paul in our lives for 10 years. He was the kind of man you always learned something from, you could not be in his presence and not gain something from your meeting with him. The kindness, humor, joy and generosity that Paul and Eve gave away so freely was truly rare gift.

In the last 24 hours my heart has been broken with the loss of Paul, but what still makes me smile and feel good is knowing that men of such character, honour, passion and loyalty exist and we were priviliged enough to call him our friend. We thank Paul for being the positive influence and man that he was in our lives…..you will NEVER be forgotten and missed EVERYDAY.

    Dear Evan,

Paul was one of my closest friends for the past 25 years. I lived in Toronto in 1985 and Paul and Dena were wonderful to me. I live in NY which was one of Paul’s favorite cities so my wife and I have been lucky to have had Paul and Eve visit us often. I think you may have also been with them in NY a couple of years ago.

Wish not so much to live long, as to live well ”. Paul knew how to live life to it’s fullest. He had what the French call “ Joie de Vivre “ (Joy of Life). His life was, and always will be an inspiration to me.

We are deeply saddened and send our Love and Prayers to all your extended family. I hope to stay in touch with Paul’s family and get to know his children from both marriages better. All of you have a dear friend in NY. I will be coming for the services.

Paul and my own firm, Goldsmith Borgal & Associates, have had a relationship for many years on many of Paul’s most visible projects. I had lunch with Paul a few weeks ago and the conversation ranged over many topics, including sailing and flying – we spent a couple of very enjoyable hours. Both my office staff and myself as well as I am sure my former partner Phil Goldsmith are shocked and saddened by this turn of events. Our hearts go out to everyone in his family – we share in your grief and hope that his memory will be held in the hearts of all those he touched in his life, his pastimes, and his work. 67. Tony Genco, Former President and CEO Parc Downsview Park Inc. says:

That Paul had an anchor in Temagami gave me a positive feeling that we could make this sweet, little village become the big picture as the best of us envision. Paul’s legacy will survive in the brilliance of our work in Temagami. Eve, my heart goes out to you. Paul is a man who cannot be dimmed by death.

  79. I ‘met’ Paul very briefly when he was a presenter at the 2010 Heritage Toronto awards (pictured), at which my Art Deco Architecture in Toronto book was honoured. In learning of his recent tragic death, I am honoured to have briefly shared the stage with a man who has given so much in helping preserve and celebrate Toronto’s city’s heritage.

  80. Paul was a great supporter of HT, a developer who understood the value of heritage conservation and a true city builder. We will miss him.

  81. Paul David Oberman

    From his heart broken father.
You will always be with me.

    Love,
    Dad

  82. Paul was more than a good man. He was one of the most exceptional people I have ever known. He was a visionary, leader, mentor and friend to so many, myself included. Paul didn’t just achieve great things in this life. His example, encouragement and guidance caused others to achieve great things too. He inspired me. He will continue to inspire me for as long as I live. This world truly has suffered a great loss. My thoughts are with Eve and his kids

  83. To the Oberman family, I sincerest condolences for your heavy loss. I have only ever met Paul once. It was a firm handshake with a friendly smile. I wish I knew him better, but at least I know he raised a wonderful family as from what I see and hear from Evan and his family photographs.

Keep strong! My thoughts are with you!

    Graeme

With deepest sympathy at your loss,
    Jacqueline Moore

  85. So sorry to hear the news to eve and the whole family, paul was a great person! xoxo

  87. I’m so sad to hear about the passing of Paul. He was a wonderful man. My thoughts, prayers and love go out to Eve and his whole family. I’m so…so sorry for your loss.

Paul was someone that taught me to always think big and to take smart actions to achieve perfection. No matter who we are or where we came from, the most important thing to believe is that we all can.

  90. Paul had a unique combination of warmth and wisdom, intellect and vision, gentle humour and deep passion. He was both very loved and very admired and he left an unforgettable impression on everyone who knew him. He had a remarkable mind and an unmatched spirit for new ideas and creative solutions. His conversation was always a pleasure and never failed to capture the imagination. He loved his family, his friends, his work, his city and the potential he saw in the world. He has left so much behind him to be cherished and yet so much still undone. Paul was an inspiration. We have lost a great man. He will be missed and remembered always.

  95. Paul Oberman has left us many visual reminders of his contribution to the City of Toronto. This City will remember him as a creator and contributor with a vision of a beautiful Toronto.

  96. My sincere condolences to Paul Oberman’s family and colleagues. Although I never had the chance to personally meet Paul, I listened to him as he opened the DX-hosted mayoral candidate panel discussion last September and, saw him again last October at the Kuwabara/Mau “Ends of Design” talk at Isabel Bader Theatre. He was well-groomed, well-heeled and well-regarded. The entire room knew who he was. Rightfully so. His loss is indeed a great one to the design and preservation communities in Toronto and beyond.

  97. Jed Manocherian says:

Paul was one of my closest friends for the past 25 years. I live in NY which was one of Paul’s favorite cities so my wife and I have been lucky to have Paul and Eve visit us often. I loved and admired him and felt a special connection with him as did so many others whose hearts he touched. He was the epitome of class, character and benevolence. Wish not so much to live long, as to live well ”. He had what the French call “ Joie de Vivre “ (Joy of Life). Paul lived life to it’s fullest and filled with love He was blessed, and a blessing to all that knew him, and the world is a better place because of him. His life was, and always will be an inspiration. We send our heartfelt condolences, love and prayers to Eve, and all of Paul’s family.
    Love, Jed & Yael Manocherian

  98. On behalf of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society, I want to offer my sincere condolences to all Paul’s loved ones. From what I know he was a champion of Canada’s aviation history – particularly that of Toronto – and we should all be inspired by his energy and enthusiasm.

  99. My heartfelt sympathy to Evan and the rest of the Oberman family. I had the privilege of having, over the years, attended a number of Greenwood related meetings with Paul and garnered the utmost respect for his way of approaching the challenges presented.

  101. Icon Architects says:

  102. Al Hardy, Principal at Greenwood College School says:

  104. What lovely human being. He’s done so much for the community of Toronto and so many other communities. We have been so lucky to have known him, even if we only met him once.

Paul you’ve left us too soon but your memory will live in our hearts FOREVER.

  171. May Delory says:

There isn’t a time when i walk into the Summerhill LCBO building that i do not think how lovely and true a restoration it is and than the people behind the work. Our thouthts are with you at this time. Peace be with you.

  172. We have not lost a heritage soldier, we have lost our General MacArthur.

  173. Just read Cathy Nasmith’s kind words in ACORN. Paul will be greatly missed by a City that now, more than ever, needs more like him. To Eve and the family, Ha’makom yenahem etkhem betokh she’ar avelei Tziyonvi’Yerushalayim.

  174. So sorry to hear. Definitely a loss for Toronto and for his family and friends. Paul was a positive happy spirit and visionary.

  175. Eve, what a terrible shock. Our thoughts are with you. Love, Stevie and Brenda.

  176. Eve and family, I am so terribly sorry for your loss……my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time….Fondly, Liz

  177. Jane French says:

Such tragic news. Woodcliffe has been the major corporate sponsor of Doors Open Toronto for many years in addition to opening the doors of the Flatiron building. I regarded Paul Oberman very highly for his generosity and leadership.

  178. Sandra Shaul says:

This makes me feel sick to my stomach. I am so sorry.

  179. Phil Goldsmith says:

Paul was committed to the City and loved both great architecture and the challenge of heritage work equally. Over a relatively brief time he worked with Woodcliffe to put together a portfolio of some of Toronto’s best know landmark buildings. The City has lost a great friend of heritage.

This is tragic, a client and friend.

  180. Rollo Myers, Manager, Architectural Conservancy of Ontario says:

This is just the worst news. What a lousy thing to happen. For the family, the company, the heritage community.

  181. Peter Carruthers says:

    Terrible news.

  182. Rebecca Carson, Heritage Toronto says:

    So unbelievably devastating.

  183. What a terrible loss. Condolences to his family. Fond memories of working with him on Summerhill – a creative, tireless mind and a huge heart. He will be missed.

  184. Eve. The Lambert Family have you and your family in our thoughts. Sending you a big hug my dear. John Lambert

  185. Ash Mary says:

Tragic, terrible terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. His legacy will be remembered through all of the amazing accomplishments he achieved. Everyone who knew him will miss him dearly. – The Warren Family

  186. A terrible tragedy for Toronto, our shared heritage and, of course, his family. A real loss as we consider new possibilities, but without his wise and loving approach to the preservation of Toronto heritage buildings and spaces.

  187. This is such tragic news…all of us at ignition are praying for you and your family…we stand at the ready to help in any way we can.

  188. Very sad news. The work Woodcliffe did in preserving heritage properties can never be forgotten.

  189. A tragic loss for his family, and for Toronto. My condolences.

  190. William German says:

I will never get over the sadness of losing such a great friend.
My only solace is the honour I feel to have known him.
His kindness and compassion were equalled not only by his integrity, but by his unquestioning loyalty.
There is a chasm in my heart.
Time will dull the ache but will never fill the void.
    Goodbye my friend.

  193. Pierre Vella-Zarb says:

It was 1983/1984 when a friend and I were looking for angel financing for our software company that I first met Paul who together with his then business partner agreed to fund our project. The company did not reach the success that Paul was destined to in later years, and while I lost touch with him 25 years ago, my memory of Paul has always been there. Even at that young age, he had accomplished a lot and he was well on his way to see his vision of King James Place come to life. I am sure that Paul touched many peoples lives over the years.

    My deepest sympathies.

  194. Canadian Air & Space Museum says:

  196. Stephanie says:

I am so terribly sad at the loss of such a great man. Difficult week. I will miss his morning ritual of telling me he was “Fabulous”for the last 5 years and “get me a fancy one”. My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and Eve and the rest of the family.

  197. Paulo Natividad says:

Words cannot fully express the grief and sadness I feel with the loss of Paul Oberman. A great man was taken away from us too soon and so suddenly. I thought of Paul as a friend, that’s how he made me feel. Thank you Paul for being you, your joy for life was energizing. It was conveyed each time we met to discuss various projects on the go. My deepest condolences go out to the Oberman family.

  198. I knew of Paul’s many accomplishments from my peers, although never having met him in person; and he’s someone I aspire to emulate.

In a world obsessed with temporary technology, and in a city where buildings sprout like mushrooms, certain people understand how to leave a special, inspiring and lasting mark on the community.

  200. Kathryn Robson says:

  201. Karen Letofsky says:

    Dear Eve and family,

On the number of occasions that I had the privilege of meeting with Paul, I knew him to be a man of heart and soul. We were grateful to benefit from his wisdom, compassion and generosity. He inspired and motivated me personally and the team at Distress Centres. His contributions have made a real difference.

Please accept our sincerest sympathies on his tragic and untimely death. Our thoughts are with you.

    Karen Letofsky &

  202. Marissa Agueci President of BIA Rosedale says:

I have sat on the same board with Paul for about 4 short years. In the last four years we challenged The City of Toronto, Enbridge and many others with success. Paul taught us to think outside the box and always strive for over and above the expected.
Rosedale now speaks for itself. I was introduced to Eve by Paul to work on the marketing committee. Right away I know we had a firecracker and the same energy. How can such a couple exist? We have some big boots to follow in, you will be in our memories as we continue with the excellence of Rosedale.

  203. Chris Holdroyd says:

    Eve,
You were so gracious to me at my fathers funeral. I am very sad for your tremendous loss. You’ve had more than your share, already during your life. But you still shine. Shine on.

  204. Nelson Menezes says:

Paul was a very big inspiration with his accomplishments and creative outlook on life. What really stands out is the love that he had for his family, for his kids and wife Eve. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know that I will miss him. He was and still remains a great man, and Friend.

    My most sincere condolences.

  205. Dear Eve and Family,

We were very lucky and
honoured to have worked with him and we hope to carry on his legacy.

    You are in our thoughts.

Rosedale Main Street BIA, Board and Staff Members

  206. Allan Hardy, Principal of Greenwood College School says:

  208. Karin Zeppieri says:

    Oh how truly sad…:(

I had the pleasure of working at Woodcliffe in 2010 for a brief but memorable period. I will always remember Paul coming into the office with a very friendly and cheerfull “Good Morning” to everyone. I saw how happy he was when Eve and him were together, and how his children were his pride and joy, along with his company.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Eve, Melissa, Evan and the rest of the family, friends and Woodcliffe.

    Paul you be missed.

  209. Pat & Kim Ward says:

    Dear Eve and family:

We are saddened by the untimely death of Paul and grieving for all of you. Paul had a smile that lit up his whole face and he was such a genuine, concerned and caring person. He radiated warmth and always made you feel he was glad to see you . He shall be greatly missed. We send our love Eve to you and all of the children.

    Pat & Kim Ward

  210. Rex Taylor says:

My deepest condolences to Paul’s family, and especially to Evan who was a student of mine at Greenwood College in Toronto. Paul purchased a cottage in Temagami, Ontario that had previously belonged to my cousin, George Small of Baltimore. He had done, as would be expected, an outstanding job of rebuilding it and making it modern but without losing any of the building’s essential character and charm. Just a small part of his legacy to the preservation of our heritage.

  212. Nizar Jiwa says:

I was shocked hear the sad demise of Paul. I met Paul when I had worked for a brief period at Eve Lewis’s Company – Market Vision.
    May God Bless you all

  213. Sue Bowman says:

  214. Catherine Stringer Fox says:

I send heart felt sympathy to Eve and family at this very sad time. I am grateful to have had the opportuny to meet Paul and to have worked with him and Eve. His presence in the Toronto Community will be greatly missed. I wish his family great strength and courage to move forward and continue Their’s & Paul’s dreams as he would wish for them.
    Sincerely Catherine Stringer Fox

  215. At the DX, the staff and our Board of Directors are deeply saddened by this loss. Paul was a brilliant man and perhaps one of the most enthusiastic ‘big thinkers’ that I’ve ever met. He had a knack for getting everyone to rally around an idea and was a wonderful leader at the DX and for the City of Toronto. Our deepest sympathy to Eve and the children – of whom he talked constantly. You all were the light of his life.

  216. Susan Harrington says:

    Dear Eve and family,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your sad loss.
Paul was a true beacon of excellence in this city.
    Sending you strength.

    best,
    Susie

  217. Anila Dhanji says:

With all our love, Riz, Anila & Alyssa

  218. Glenn Pushelberg says:

We would like to send flowers to Paul’s family, namely his wife. Would you be able to send me those details. With deep sympathy, Glenn Pushelberg + George Yabu

  219. Linda Pearlstein says:

I’ve known Paul since we were 16 years old, and we have grown up together! My thoughts are with his family, and especially his children.

    Love you tons!!!

    Auntie Linda and Uncle Geoff

  220. Jed Manocherian says:

    Love, Jed Manocherian

If you wish, I have someone in my office that can be available full time to help you develop the website.

  221. Sorry I can’t be with you. I will really miss Paul – he was always so good to me. James, Guy and I will be thinking of you all.
